Some theaters in the 1920's were so big they were nicknamed 'Picture Palaces'. The theater was known as a magical experience because watching a show was a privilege. We may not appreciate this today, but back then theaters used ushers throughout the 20's and 30's. Ushers had to show people to their seats and clean up as well as handling big crowds of people. The movie theater was a place all the local people would spend time. It was a good place to hang out with friends and relax. Big signs announced which movies were playing that day and people were very excited to see what was brand new. Being able to watch a movie for an hour or two was a great experience for a lot of people.
